Republic Services raises trash rates in Springfield, citing inflation

Many Springfield customers are upset, but Republic Services says the rate increase is simply the result of “increased operating expenses.”

Republic Services customers have reported seeing unexpected “fuel” charges added to their bills. A customer who shared his bill with the News-Leader showed a fuel charge that raised his price by just over $9 per month. Others said they were now paying even more.

Some Republic Services customers have taken to Facebook to vent their frustration.

Dennis Correll told the News-Leader he was already upset with Republic Services over a dispute over damage he allegedly caused to his driveway, and the rate hike made him even worse. more frustrated. He said from talking to neighbors and looking at reviews online, there are plenty of others who aren’t happy.

Republic Services sent a statement to the News-Leader saying the rate increases are the result of inflation that has impacted many other industries.

“We take great pride in serving our customers in Springfield and surrounding areas,” Republic Services said. “Many industries are currently facing challenges related to increased operating expenses.
