The leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement says Imam Khomeini’s movement has given meaning to the lives of Muslims around the world and that only the Islamic Republic he founded stands firmly behind the Palestinian cause.
Ziad al-Nakhala, secretary general of the Gaza-based resistance movement, made the remarks on the 33rd anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s death on Friday.
“Imam [Khomeini]with his rise and presence, gave meaning to the lives of Muslims everywhere… he gave them hope that change is not only possible but also inevitable,” Nakhala said.
He said Imam Khomeini’s movement has changed the world equations and empowered people to confront the forces of evil in the world, especially in Palestine, where people are daily fighting the occupation and the oppression of the Israeli regime.
“Only the Islamic Republic stands firm in defending and supporting the Palestinian people and their resistance while calling for the liberation of al-Quds and Palestine,” the Palestinian leader added.
In 1979, Imam Khomeini led a revolution that overthrew the US-backed monarchy in Iran and established the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The movement of Imam Khomeini, who died on June 3, 1989, inspired people from all walks of life around the world to rise up against the oppressors in their countries and to fight the colonial powers.
“Imam Khomeini’s revolution is still flourishing all over the world”
“He liberated Muslims and the weak from the terror of the great powers,” Nakhala said. “Imam [Khomeini] proved with his revolution that the great colonial powers can be broken, that they can be forced to retreat and that they can be defeated.
He has become “a great symbol for all men who make history, and his revolution will continue to take on deeper dimensions the more we study him, and the more we delve into them”.
The Islamic revolution, according to Nakhala, is still flourishing around the world, from Iran to Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.
“The Palestinian people present today the most important model to face the Zionist expansion, imposing its decline and worrying it in all points of Palestine,” he said.
“This would not have been possible without the valor and resistance of the Palestinian people and without the political and material support provided by the Islamic Republic, which did not stop for a moment,” Nakhala added.
