Palakkad (Kerala), April 25 (PTI) Two more people have been arrested in connection with the killing of an RSS leader recently in Palakkad district, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 11 so far, Kerala Police announced on Monday.
ADGP (Law and Order) Vijay Sakhare told PTI that police also arrested a person suspected of being involved in the murder of RSS leader Sanjith in the district in November last year.
“He’s just a suspect now. We’re going to question him. We haven’t arrested him,” Sakhare said.
Sanjith’s death was apparently the reason for the assassination of Indian Popular Front (PFI) leader Subair (43) on April 15, allegedly by friends of the RSS leader, police said earlier.
Ramesh, a very close friend of Sanjith, along with two others allegedly planned and also executed Subair’s murder as he believed the PFI leader was responsible for his friend’s death.
All three were RSS workers, police said.
In retaliation for Subair’s murder, RSS leader SK Srinivasan (45) was killed on 16 April.
The two people who were arrested on Monday are believed to be the conspirators involved in Srinivasan’s murder, while five of the six assailants remain at large, ADGP said.
The senior officer had earlier said that those involved in Srinivasan’s murder initially attempted to kill two other RSS leaders and, having failed to find their targets, who had been in hiding, they targeted Srinivasan.
Most of the defendants arrested in the Srinivasan case are workers from the PFI and its political wing, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), police said.
Srinivasan, a former district chief and RSS official, was attacked by a six-member gang at his motorbike shop in Melamuri near here on April 16, just 24 hours after Subair was hacked to death in Elappully in the district as he was returning home with his father after offering prayers at a mosque on the afternoon of April 15.
The back-to-back killings involving BJP/RSS and SDPI/PFI are the second such incident in recent months in Kerala.
Last December, an SDPI leader and a BJP leader were assassinated in Alappuzha within 24 hours. PTI HMP HDA
